What documents are needed to travel to the Maldives?
All tourists monitor prices for holidays in the Maldives and forget about something important – studying the updated rules for entry to the Maldives for Russians.
The most important thing is that you don’t need a VISA to travel to the Maldives. So don’t worry about it. The main document of every tourist visiting the Maldives is a health declaration.

Important changes
Effective 14 March 2022, the state of emergency imposed due to COVID-19 has been lifted in the Republic of Maldives.
- For all passengers upon arrival/departure from the Republic of Maldives, PCR tests and vaccination certificates are CANCELLED.
- All arriving and departing passengers via air and sea ports must complete a Traveler Health Declaration form within 96 hours prior to their flight at travel.immigration.gov.mv.
Documents required before arriving in the Maldives
An online health declaration must be completed 96 hours before arrival in the Republic of Maldives. Please note that the Declaration must be completed for each tourist!
After completing the declaration, you will receive a QR code (valid for 96 hours), which you must print out or save on your phone. Present it when passing through passport control. At the airport, it is enough to present the QR code of the completed online declaration upon arrival (printed forms are not needed).
Declaration before departure from the Maldives
An online health declaration must be completed 96 hours before departure from the Maldives. Please note that the Declaration must be completed for each tourist.

If the airline you are travelling with or the country you are flying to after the Maldives requires a COVID-19 PCR test, you must inform your hotel in advance. Hotels will arrange for the test (additional charge).
At Male airport
Upon arrival at Male International Airport, tourists must go to the desk of the booked hotel, which is located in the arrivals area. Each hotel has its own desk number.
Transfers are only possible if pre-booked and confirmed with the hotel to which the tourist is traveling.
Visa to Maldives
The Republic of Maldives is included in the list of countries for visiting which citizens of the Russian Federation do not need a preliminary visa. From the moment of entry, tourists can stay in the territory of the Maldives for 90 days. Permission to stay in the country is issued by customs officers during passport control.
A tourist must have the following documents with him:
- a foreign passport valid for at least 1 month from the date of entry;
- a return air ticket;
- a tourist voucher.

- Due to restrictions on various transactions outside the Russian Federation using plastic cards issued by major Russian banks that have fallen under “Western” sanctions, we recommend that you have a sufficient supply of cash to cover your expenses during your stay in the Maldives. Please note that from March 2, 2022, the export of foreign currency in cash from the Russian Federation in an amount exceeding $10,000 is prohibited.
- We also remind you that dollar banknotes of any denomination issued before 2009 are not accepted for payment in the Republic of Maldives.
- Tourists with any symptoms of the disease, even with a negative test for Covid-19, will not be allowed to participate in excursions, water sports, or diving.
- In case of any illness during your holiday, you should immediately inform the hotel staff. Until the cause of the illness is determined, the tourist will be prohibited from leaving the territory of their room. If the symptoms are similar to COVID-19, tests are taken. If the test for COVID-19 is negative, you are allowed to move freely and use the hotel services, but with the obligatory wearing of a mask.
In case of a positive PCR test result, tourists are given two options:
- With minimal symptoms: quarantine at the hotel of residence for an additional fee, in accordance with medical requirements. Food is delivered to the room only during doctor visits.
- If you have serious symptoms of the disease. Quarantine in a special hotel on a local island or in a state hospital. If a tourist needs a certificate of absence of COVID-19 upon return to their home country, then this should be reported to the hotel immediately upon arrival to be able to organize timely collection of tests. The service is paid. Check the cost in advance with the sales department.
