A landmark event for the island took place on August 20. On that day, the President of the Republic of Maldives arrived on an official visit to Thoddoo to personally take part in the ceremonial opening of a new ATM. However, this is not an ordinary ATM – its key feature was the function of withdrawing and exchanging American currency.

This major innovation solves one of the most common problems faced by foreign tourists. Now, visitors to the island will be able to instantly and easily obtain cash dollars, without wasting time looking for an exchange office or traveling to Male. This will not only add convenience, but also increase the financial security of travelers, eliminating the need to carry large amounts of cash with them.

New level of comfort in the port: the waiting room is under completion

At the same time, another construction project is in full swing on the island, no less important for creating positive impressions from the first minutes of guests’ stay. A modern and spacious waiting room for arriving and departing passengers is being built in the port of Thoddoo.

Initially, it was planned that the construction work would be fully completed by the end of August, however, as often happens, the schedule has shifted slightly. Currently, the facility is being actively completed: workers are busy finishing the interior spaces, installing air conditioning systems and installing comfortable furniture.

The new lounge will allow travellers to wait in comfort for their transfer boat or seaplane, sheltered from the scorching sun or tropical rain in a cool, air-conditioned space.

Both projects demonstrate the Maldives’ strategy of continually improving service and infrastructure, even at its smallest resorts. The addition of a dollar ATM and a modern lounge at Thoddoo are not just small improvements, but serious steps towards making the international tourist experience truly stress-free and comfortable from the moment of arrival to departure.
